My USB connected LabelWriter fails to print, how can I resolve this?

There are some general trouble shooting steps that may resolve this issue if your LabelWriter is not printing while connected directly to your Windows or Macintosh operating system.

Windows

First ensure the printer hardware is operating correctly.
  • Press the feed button and ensure 1 label advances.
If more than one label advances, please ensure you are using DYMO brand labels, and they are loaded correctly (Face down, holes on the left).
  • Also ensure the DYMO power adapter is being used with the DYMO printer, and the USB is connected directly to the computer.
If the hardware is working correctly, we will then want to test the connection and communication between the computer and printer.
  • Go to the start menu, open the control panel, then locate:
Windows XP: Printers and Faxes
Vista: Printers
Windows 7 and 8: Devices and printers
  • Once you are in this window, locate your DYMO printer.
  • Double click on the DYMO printer to open the print queue, and select "printer" and "cancel all documents". (This may require administrative access).
  • Once the documents are canceled, please remove the DYMO printer using the steps below:
Windows XP & Vista: Right click on the DYMO printer and select Delete.
Windows 7 & 8: Right click on the DYMO printer and select Remove Device.
  • Ensure there are not any duplicate DYMO printers, if so please remove them.
  • Once all DYMO printers are removed, remove labels from feed; Then disconnect the power and USB cord from the printer for 1 minute.
  • Then reconnect the power followed by USB.
  • The printer should re-appear, and you should now be able to print.

Macintosh

First ensure the printer hardware is operating correctly.
  • Press the feed button and ensure 1 label advances.
If more than one label advances, please ensure you are using DYMO brand labels, and they are loaded correctly (Face down, holes on the left).
  • Also ensure the DYMO power adapter is being used with the DYMO printer, and the USB is connected directly to the computer.
If the hardware is working correctly, we will then want to test the connection and communication between the computer and printer.
  • Go to your system preferences
  • Then open the print and scan or print and fax option which varies depending on OS X version.
  • Remove all the documents pending for the printer (if any) by selecting the DYMO printer then select Open Print queue which should be located on the right.
  • Now remove any documents by selecting the x by the print job.
  • Once all are removed, close the print queue and remove the DYMO printer from the printers list.
  • You can remove it by selecting the DYMO printer then select the minus ( - ) to remove the DYMO printer.
  • Now once the printer is removed, power the printer off and disconnect the USB.
  • Allow 1 minute before re-connecting the printer, you will connect power followed by USB.
  • Once re-connected the DYMO printer should reappear and you can try printing.
  • You will want to ensure it's connected directly, and may want to try another USB cord or port if it fails to appear.
  • If the DYMO printer fails to re-appear after using a new cord or port, it is most likely a driver issue which would require you to take the steps below.
If it is a driver related issue, please remove and re-install the DYMO Label software using the steps below:
  •     First we will delete the application from the applications folder and the docking station by dragging them into the trash bin.
  •     Then delete the following folders located in your Library folder:
Mac HD > Library > Frameworks > Delete DYMO Folder
Mac HD > Library > Printers > Delete DYMO folder
  •     Unplug the printer, empty the trash, and shut down the computer.
  •     Upon rebooting reinstall your software, click here to be directed to the DYMO Drivers and Download for the latest software.
  •     Make sure only to plug the printer directly into your computer, once the installation is complete.
  •     Then check in your print and scan to ensure the printer is listed in the printers list.
  •     If it is not listed please remove the power and USB from the printer, power the computer off, then boot the computer back up.
  •     Upon logging into your system, power the printer back on followed by connecting the USB.
